You Rexy Thing

A couple of weeks ago, one of the Rex boys flew the nest and began dating an owner's rabbit, hoping to win his own girl and find a home. It all went rather well and now he has gone off to continue his plans for world domination elsewhere.

It would be nice to continue the stream of good luck with our bonds... I believe in miracles...

Sleeping Outdoors

Erm... Tarzan... You know all of your bedding was inside of your hutch for a reason, right?

Silly bun buns...

Thistle

It is amazing to think in 2011 Tansley and Thistle were nearly indistinguishable from each other. One thing is for sure, even if the resemblance has melted away a little over the years that Thistle has been unwell, the brotherly love endured.

We knew that Thistle did not have long left- having suffered from E Cuniculi for many years, his body was beginning to fail and his weight dropped drastically. The only thing stopping us from letting him go earlier was his continued zest for life. Even in the last week I saw him in his grass enclosure more than his brother, dining al-fresco and sunbathing. We knew an ethical decision was looming, but on Wednesday little Thistle took it away from us and passed away naturally during the night.

Goodbye little man.

Re-Homed

Some time ago we had Jolie and her non-RRR partner Pillow brought back to the Rescue as their owners circumstances had changed and they were no longer able to provide them with enough space to stop them squabbling. To make matters worse, Pillow was prone to eye ulcers and will require eye drops for the rest of his life.

They are perhaps most well known here for being logically confusing, as Jolie is the white fluffy one of the pair and Pillow the small brown lop.

Happily, remembering which way round they are will no longer be an issue, as we recently received word that their original owners have become able to keep pets again and in a long hoped for but rare arrangement, they have been re-adopted and went back home last Saturday.

"Ah-ha, so does this mean I get a better quality of service now?"

Boadicea

Lower the flags to half mast, dig out the black banners and a moment of silence please. Boadicea, our Queen of the Rescue, has fallen.

I sadly regret to inform you all that yesterday afternoon Boadicea went to the vets for tests on her newly developed heart condition and very suddenly and unexpectedly had a heart attack during the procedure. We are stunned by her loss.

There is very little that I can say about Boadicea that supporters of the Rescue and this blog will not know- Mrs Tubby-Fatbottom was well known for being a mischief-maker alongside her soulmate, Archimedes. He waited ages for his perfect woman and chose her, his other half. They were often found snuggling in their barn or in the vicinity of the snack barrow (if not in it).

Both rabbits, so large and demanding, insisted on roaming their whole kingdom during the day and were a familiar sight around the Rescue, stealing veg or providing immovable obstacles. The place shall not be the same again without her.
