(un) happy hump day

I think this probably explains the issue.

Good news, Bonita, the diets actually working, although you still have a little more weight to loose.

Lucky Escape

Bonita, our rather bolshy Spanish meat rabbit, recently moved house yet again into a shed with access to a large grass area, as Caroline hopes that we can still tackle her fear-aggression. At some time in the future we may investigate the suspicion that her spay was not done properly but with rabbits with greater issues at the Rescue it has to wait its turn.

With her having a roam around, I decided to brave the enclosure and crawl across the grass like a member of the SAS, phone in extended hand and zoom up to full.

As you can see, she wasn't immediately impressed by the new slowly creeping addition to her play area, but it was then that I made my fatal mistake- trying to get her to face the camera by calling "Bon Bons!"

The blink of an eye later...

Note to self- never again...!

Run, Eat, Sleep, Repeat

It's a tough and tiring life, chasing volunteers around begging for food...

... all the time...

This Quiet Corner

It's quiet down the rescue most of the time, especially now my mp3 player has given up the ghost and gone to meet its maker. Unfortunately this means that my strange mind (you don't have to be mad to work here but it helps!) has to find ways to entertain itself. Pandoren FM tunes into such classics as...

"Because I'm Hoppy (clap along if you feel like a room without a roof)..."

No? OK, maybe not then...

How about...

"Sprocket man! (Burnin' out this fuse up here alone)..."

What? No good either?

OK, one last try...

Wait for it...

"Mallow! Is it me you're looking for?"

"I'd stop right now if I were you..."

Tough crowd...

Bon Free

Bonita, the fear-aggressive former Spanish meat rabbit, finally managed to move house into one of our "Rabbitopias" in recent weeks, which is a sort of large aviary with platforms, ramps, hiding places and tunnels. Remembering her escapades during her first night when she escaped from her overnight cage and scaled up our shelving units in the Reception Barn, I thought it would be perfect for her. While she still hates being touched, she is enjoying begging angelically for food through the mesh and has learned to chase volunteers around the perimeter of the Rabbitopia simply so she can make that face at people.

Unfortunately this has made her rather difficult to photograph as she enjoys her new area.

"Fooooooooooooood!"

No, Bon-Bons, please sit still and look photographic for me, just once?

"Wheresit?"

That's a lovely ear you have Bons, but really doesn't help my efforts for blog photos! Can you stay put at a distance, pleeeease?

Ah well, if that's the best I'm going to get!

Bun-Eater

There now, isn't that better? Bonita enjoyed Take 3 of Photo Time, as I let her out into one of our Binky Areas for a ramble and managed to bribe her into looking a lot happier. That said, she continued her Houdini streak by somehow managing to get out of the enclosure for a saunter around the main site until she unwittingly wandered into the area I was working.

(Cameo by Bob... What did I tell you?)

The Spanish Lady

Recently a woman in Alicante came across a sorry sight- among other unfortunates, she found emaciated dogs chained to poles and, in one bare metal cage void of flooring, bedding and food, a rabbit that was probably destined for the meat market. That Spanish bun buns is a very lucky lady, as the woman rescued her, vaccinated her and flew her via pet taxi all the way to our rescue.

Introducing: Bonita.

She's quite a big girl and certainly has a strong attitude. Although her rescuer told us that she's now spayed, Caroline and I suspect from her behaviour that perhaps, if this is the case, the operation was not done properly. Her submissiveness once caught made photographing her positively somewhat difficult, but I hope once her hormones settle and her trust increases there will be better opportunities to show her off in full glory.

She certainly announced her arrival with a bang- originally she had been contained in a plastic quarantine cage in the Reception Barn. Since she was being very energetic, Caroline consented to construct a panel enclosure around the cage for some temporary run time. This turned out to be very temporary indeed, as Bonita decided upwards was better and went mountaineering across our shelving units.

Upon opening up the morning after her intake, Caroline then found that Bonita had broken out of her cage and spent the night terrorising poor Jessica the Cat!

Now Naughty McBunbuns has moved into a wooden hutch where she is continuing to show us her true character. I get the feeling she is going to appear on the blog quite a lot in future!
