Limelight Is Green Light

"Please Mr BHV, can we be on the blog again today? Visitors recognise us and give extra treats when we've been on the blog!"

BHV: No, sorry my super-sized friends, you've already had two days in the last seven, you know the rules, we need to give some other buns a day in the limelight!

"See what you've done? He's in such a grump now I probably won't even get my ears licked clean tonight. You did this, you can make it right:- LICK MY DIRTY EARS!"

BHV: Errr.... well the blog thing is more of a guideline than a rule, I guess one more day...

Carpentry In Motion

"Wait... so let me get this straight... Those people who came to see us are interested in adopting us... and those people who came to see us before are interested in adopting us... and that other strange person... but they all need to make a good house for us first? I can't wait!"

"Let me speed things up by dismantling this one first!"

Chin Head

"Rosetta, just because I can't chin the top of my own head doesn't mean you can claim it - it's MY head!"

The Correction Interception

"[...nom.nom.nom...]"

"Oh Rosetta, you can't eat parsley like that, you'll hurt your neck! Move out of the way, I'll show you."

"See? Straight back, that's the key. Oh, you didn't want me to leave you any did you...?"

The Hand-Out Hold-Up

Fonzie is such a character, totally in-your-face, I could easily spend the whole day hanging out with him given the chance!

"Ah, you're really spoiling me with these tasty treats! Keep 'em coming! [...chomp...chomp...chomp...]"

"Er...hello? Other bunnies are waiting for their dinner too?"

Oops. Better get on then...

The Holiday Mood

As well as all the rescuing, the RRR also takes in holiday boarders when their families are away. For the most part this is former residents, which gives us a great opportunity to catch up with our little fluffy friends.

Donations from this activity are part of what helps keep everything else going and lets us help more bunnies. So we suffer the necessary evil of moving some of our current residents into smaller areas during peak periods to make room for the boarders.

Bunnies like Fonzie and Rosetta, who would normally have a spacious aviary all to themselves, have to cope with living in just a shed for several weeks. If I'm honest, this does upset me to see them in smaller spaces, but I understand why it has to be that way. However, I found it particularly stressful this time as they started to revert back to their old grumpy growly ways somewhat.

"Go away, I don't like you anymore. Also: Growl. That is all."

It's hard to make bunnies understand that it is actually these boarders that are paying for them to live in such nice accommodation for most of the year. Fortunately, we do listen to and understand their concerns, so bunnies who struggle to cope are the first back when a space frees up. I am happy to say that in Fonzie and Rosetta's case, normal levels of contentment returned very quickly after moving back into their regular house.

"Rosetta, stop snacking and join me on the sun terrace. I'm about to guilt-trip this human into being my personal fan for the afternoon!"

Behind With The Calendars

I am in trouble. I am about three weeks behind schedule coming up with the photo's for fellow volunteer Nicola so she can start creating next years Rabbit Residence Rescue calendar.

My main problem isn't that I don't have any decent photo's, it's that they are all the wrong shape. It seems that sometime around late 2012 I became very good at taking "portrait" pictures and since then have taken very little else. Unfortunately, the calendar needs "landscape" pictures.

No worries though, all I need is a couple of weekends of good weather...oh.

Well anyway, I have been forcing myself to take more landscape pictures over the last couple of weeks in the hope we can make up the shortfall. Since I thought it would be nice to feature some of our extra special buns who have been with us for some time, I have also focused on some of those. And the good news is, I FINALLY got a decent picture of Fonzie and Rosetta, standing still, together! Only thing is...

It's no good. Even with this one - still too behind.

The Face and the Faceless

I was asked for a photo of Rosetta and Fonzie last week, but when I checked my files I had nothing suitable. So Monday I got them out into a nice green open space and had a go. Then I remembered.

I don't have decent pictures of Fonzie because if you go anywhere near him he won't leave you alone. He gets right up in your face (literally) looking for treats or, failing that, someone to make a big fuss of him. No, no, really, he IS a rabbit, honest!

By stark contrast, at the sign that anything unusual (like photography) is afoot Rosetta just chooses to be somewhere else. If she can't be somewhere else, she tends to get nervous and growly, so although they are a beautiful and fabulous pair of real characters, they really need a very special home with someone experienced.

Well anyway, as a result of all this, almost all of my pictures of the two of them together look something like this:

Great huh?

Fortunately, Rosetta's cautiousness drops away in an instant at the first sign of snacks. The only trouble is, then they're BOTH in your face.

"Did you say the 'S' word?"

Cooooooool

After losing her partner earlier this year and a failed attempt to bond her with Mr Unbondable Grumpypants, Rosetta finally has a new husbun.  Meet super-cool bunny Fonzie!

"Did I hear my name? Is it snacky time?!"

"Sweet. No, seriously, sweet - where's the dessert?!"

Third Eye Blink

"Ever wonder what a rabbits third eyelid is for?"

"Well I don't know about everybun else, but mine are for keeping out the carrot juice!"
